Keynote: From whistles to nation state and why Developers are now more important than ever before

Hacking, and being hacked, is now daily front page news. From ransomware and arrests of young researchers who try and prevent it, to countries subverting the political systems of others, it is no longer the small niche that it was, but now seemingly has the power to affect billions. Steve Ballmer’s now legendary ‘Developers!’ Opening of Microsoft’s 25th Anniversary event in 2000 was a call for action to developers to create innovative and revolutionary software. 17 years on, it’s time to rally developers again to help create secure software that is resilient against a never ending tsunami of attackers and helps protect those who use it in their daily lives.
Daniel’s talk will walk through where we’ve been, some of the good things we’ve managed to do (and some of the really bad) and where we need to go from here and why developers should be the new rockstars in the SecDevOps movement.
